Well done (access-wise) to An Garda Siochana for putting up the most recent Children First child protection guidelines on their website. Here it is.

(Interestingly the Department of Health hasn’t yet managed to replace the 1999 guidelines on its website with the most recent up to date 2011 Guidelines).

Child protection doesn’t seem to always come that high up the list of priorities as the recent Cloyne Report (aka the Commission of Investigation Report into the Catholic Diocese of Cloyne, Co Cork into the handling of clerical child sex abuse)
has shown. Here’s a very good article by the Sunday Business Post about the understandable reluctance of victims to engage with the criminal justice system in this arena.
